Films at Ridgewood Commons: "Hospital"

Free

Join us on Wednesday, March 4th @ 7:30 PM for a screening of Frederick Wiseman’s documentary “Hospital.”

The recently deceased Frederick Wiseman was known for casting an analytical eye upon American institutions. In this Emmy-winning observational documentary we’re brought to the chaotic emergency wards and outpatient clinics of the resource-strained Metropolitan Hospital in East Harlem, serving a largely poor and marginalized population.

“It is as open and revealing as filmed experience has ever been. You look misery in the eye and you realize there’s nothing to be afraid of… By the end we are so thoroughly involved… that tears well up, because we simply have no other means of responding to the intensity of this plain view of the ordinary activities in Metropolitan Hospital.”
– Pauline Kael
