Whether being honored with her own day (May 4th in three cities plus Fulton County), touring with Grammy-winning artist Jill Scott or creating opportunities as CEO of LADYGIRL PRODUCTIONS, Tamika "GEORGIAME" Harper has propelled her love of poetry into a mighty heralded career.
Harper returns to the Valley of the Sun – having last performed in Tempe as part of HomeBase Poetry's finale showcase – to kick off L!VE POET!C's barebard series. The event, celebrating Women's History Month, is hosted by and benefiting the Black women's podcast VENUS CLAPBACK.
ABOUT GEORGIAME: Anointed as the Queen of Spoken Word, Atlanta native and resident GEORGIAME is a seven-time feature on Russell Simmons HBO Def Poetry and its Broadway adaptation – which earned her a Tony Award. She also has garnered Emmy, Peabody, BAFTA, GANSPA and KUUMBA awards. Additionally, she has appeared on Verses and Flow (TV One); Lyric Cafe (BET); and talk shows The Today Show (NBC), Last Call With Carson Daly (NBC) and The Mo'Nique Show (BET).
The producer, teaching artist and mentor has performed on numerous colleges and universities, symposiums and conferences, private events and public rallies all over the world, including: 45 U.S. states; Australia; New Zealand; South Africa; Scotland: England; Bahamas; Puerto Rico; Belize; and Mexico. She is the co-creator and founder of The Tamika Festival, the world's largest urban fringe approaching its 10th year (in April) celebrating every aspect of the Diaspora.
Other upcoming projects include: GEORGIAME'S SPEAK EZ, a talk show from an unapologetic poet perspective; and featured performances on the inaugural seasons of "The Golden Mic" (hosted by poet Sunni Patterson) and "Gay Writes" (hosted by poet Queen Sheba).
Harper is most grateful to be mother to her son, Wisdom. She says: "I'm Wisdom's mama, LadyGirl's daughter, Jesus' lil sister, Cecil's niece and Gloria's dream."
OPENING THE EVENT is Tindal Muzic! A female-fronted duo that got their start in the Valley of the Sun. Their style gives life to music through soulful melodies & infectious percussion. All the while, their intention is to spread love of life through hope & gratitude. ELEVEN ELEVEN is the latest project.
ABOUT VENUS CLAPBACK: Venus Clapback is a podcast and video series defined by conversation between sisters hosted by Muse and Coco –friends who love life, healing and wisdom. “Venus” because we are proud women, “Clapback” because everyday Black women are often misrepresented – and we’re here to set the record straight. Together, they unapologetically explore new paths to Black Woman Joy, Peace & Growth and invite you to talk, laugh and heal.
