Learn about probability’s outsized role in electronic music and how you can use constrained randomness to achieve intentional artistic outcomes. We’ll discuss how noise and probability distributions more broadly relate to musical techniques, and use the Eurorack synth module Marbles from Mutable Instruments as our primary lens to examine these topics. We will see how stochastic processes are harnessed in music production at both faster and slower time scales, exploring both audio synthesis and generative sequencing respectively.
