Maybe it's too world-weary to say that suspense-as-felt-in-the-body-while-watching peaked in 1977 with psychopath William Friedkin's remake of Clouzot's WAGES OF FEAR, but we'd be hard-pressed to find anything since that has left our knuckles bloodless for as many days. Proving that the smartest, most visceral plots can also be the simplest and most elemental, SORCERER sets four rough dudes (led by Roy Scheider two years past his turn in cinema-rearranging JAWS) on a 200-mile trek through the Colombian jungle piloting hulking Trucks filled to the brim with nitroglycerin. You'll never look at bumps in the road the same way again.
