Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.
With poet Tova Greene!
In this workshop, we'll look at OG and modern confessional poets—ranging from Sylvia Plath to Danez Smith, Anne Sexton to Kaveh Akbar—all leading to the woman of the hour. We'll learn about the history of confessional poetry and its emergence out of (and potentially in opposition to) 20th century modernism. We'll chat about why the term has caused such a divide in the literary community and what it really means. Through generative writing exercises, we’ll uncover how we can incorporate aspects of confessionalism into our writing practice. And, of course, we'll listen to a lot of Taylor Swift.
This workshop is for Swifties, poets, poetry-lovers, poets-to-be, and anyone in therapy.
