It’s a #HotLaborSummer, so why not share the strike energy with your friends at Shadow Kitchen? On August 17th, we’re joined by writer/director Alex Rivera as he shares his dystopian masterpiece SLEEP DEALER along with the short film that inspired it, WHY CYBRACEROS?

SLEEP DEALER (2008) - The near future. Like tomorrow. In a world marked by closed borders, corporate warriors, and a global computer network, three strangers risk their lives to connect, break through the barriers of technology, and unseal their fates.

WHY CYBRACEROS? (1997) - Sarcastically spoofing the California Grower’s Council propaganda piece ‘Why Braceros?’, the film uses industrial footage along with recordings from farm workers' strikes to explore a dystopic future where all labor is divorced from the workers by way of the internet. The Cybracero is the hi-tech face of the age-old American Dream.

Join us August 17th for these films followed by a discussion with Alex Rivera in person!
