Learn to make your own analog video glitch device in our AVE-MOD workshop. In this workshop you will assemble a kit for the Syntonie AVE-MOD as seen here:
https://syntonie.fr/archer-video-enhancer-mod-2
The AVE-MOD is a circuit-bent version of Radio Shack's Archer Video Enhancer, a set-top device for enhancing your TV image in an era when picture adjustments weren't common on TVs themselves. The bends allow you to create exciting glitch effects that will be the envy of your friends.
PLEASE NOTE: The AVE-MOD works best with analog video sources (such as a VCR) and a CRT or "tube" TV (the old heavy ones with glass in them, i.e. *not* a flat panel). While it is possible to use an adapter to get non-analog sources into the AVE-MOD and another adapter to get the results on a modern screen, please be warned that results may vary, and we recommend using the AVE-MOD with analog sources and displays.
This workshop involves soldering, and beginners are welcome with no prior knowledge of soldering or circuit bending is required. Attendees will build their own module at separate soldering stations and all building/soldering tools will be provided on site. Local DIY electronic designer and video artist Jon Daries will be on site to provide an overview of electronics building technique including how to correctly solder through-hole components. He will also explain
some basic principles of how video synthesizer circuits are designed
and how they function electronically. Jon and facilitators from Synth
Library Portland will be present to assist in the building process
and troubleshoot problems should they arise.
Workshop tickets are $50 and which includes a kit to build AVE-MOD, power supply, and RCA cables to connect it to video source and TV. Event and instruction is free but requires a ticket which covers the cost of the AVE MOD kits. Kits will be brought to the event the day of so you can simply show up and everything you need to build the video synth will be provided.
