Join us at this month's Free Verse, a PSNY initiative designed specifically by & for BIPOC creatives, with Lauren Hunter!
It's time to play. Grab your pens, pencils, crayons, glue or a single piece of paper and your hands and let's decorate the tiniest poems. Whether you normally craft epics, sonnets, haiku, or tweets, let's spend some time celebrating the joy and might of the minuscule together. We'll read a few classic (and not-so-classic) examples and try to distill a poem to a single delightful nugget. Finishing your poem(s) as a collage, IG post, postcard, tattoo, or love note is optional, but certainly encouraged.
About the instructor: Lauren Hunter is a poet, editor & educator from Durham, North Carolina. She received her MFA in poetry from The New School and collaborates with Susannah Sian Simpson in producing ALL RIGHT NOW!, an art and ritual event series. Her chapbook, My Own Fires, was released by Brothel Books in 2011, followed by the full-length collection HUMAN ACHIEVEMENTS (Birds, LLC 2017)
This workshop is taught by and for Black, Indigenous, and other Persons of Color with an interest in poetry. We invite folks to connect in this safe, generative, BIPOC-centered space: to share work, experiences, and discourse. At the end of every workshop, we welcome the sharing of resources, such as literature, community events, and grants available for application. Respectfully and consensually connecting with other members outside of the space is encouraged. If you are not BIPOC-identifying, we kindly invite you to attend other PSNY events. While topics do not necessarily center around being BIPOC, this community space is designed specifically for the BIPOC experience. Attendees of our Monthly Free Workshops for BIPOC Creatives receive a 50% off discount code for our Weekly Virtual Workshops!
