In a moment of economic turmoil and planetary crisis, Economies of Care is a series of participatory conversations and workshops with organizers, scholars and artists working to envision new models for community, ecology and exchange, within and in service to the digital forum. In each session, a guest will discuss their work and research and share a participatory workshop, guided by our host and curator, Aden Solway.

Our first guest is Skawennati, a multidisciplinary artist and co-founder of Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace. We’ll join Skawennati and Aden for a live talk in AbTeC Island, her virtual space hosted in SecondLife, to discuss her ongoing research projects, the joys of digital gathering, and her new work on superheroes. About the host: Aden Solway is an artist and curator. Trained as a historian, they have held positions across three continents, supporting projects led by The Art Gallery Of Ontario (AGO), Scotiabank Contact Festival, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Princeton University, The Art Institute of Chicago and York University. Over the last decade, they have maintained residency and fellowship positions at Banff Center for Arts and Creativity (Canada), Museum of Contemporary Art (Toronto) and Cornell University (NYC). They are the founder of Closed Office, a research laboratory that investigates the myriad intersections of urbanism, performance and art. Send them pictures of your quarantine cooking on Discord.
