Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.
With poet Kate Belew.
Autumn and the Underworld sits on the horizon. Celebrated traditionally as a day of ancestral honoring, a thinning veil between this world and the next, and a time for divination, Samhain can be honored as the end of autumn shifts toward winter. The Pagan roots of Halloween, this is the Season of the Witch.
During this time, the trees release their leaves, harvest season is coming to a close, and we're preparing for the winter ahead. During Samhain season, we can tap into language and symbols of the spirit world, the gratitude we gathered during harvest season, and traditional images of pumpkins, ghosts, ancestral altars, and mugwort and marigolds.
This writing workshop will explore seasonal inspiration and magic related to Samhain, Witchcraft, and the Occult helping to craft and create poems that tie in with the themes and dreams of late fall, magically connecting with what is dark and full of mysteries, wyrd, and knowing and allowing the writer to work with poems as offerings during this potent week.
**This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
