Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.
With poet Jonathan Burkhalter.
Have you ever read a poem, humming along, feeling into it, when suddenly a word like “text message” or “instagram” seems to totally ruin the mood? In our late-stage, technocapitalism age, technology and brand names are a large part of our daily lives and how we communicate with one another, but they don't always come across as ~poetic~ on the page. It’s our job as poets to re-enliven the senses. If our language becomes dulled, our poems become dulled.
So, how do we talk about the digital mediums in which we participate, within the realm of the poem? And to zoom out a little, how does technology affect our poetic practices? In this space, we’ll talk about re-enlivening the language that we use, read poets who do this well, and also discuss finding balance between our tech side-kicks and the human-ness that gives poetry power.
**This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
