The Science in Theatre Festival returns this fall for
its third time to illuminate fascinating research
through theater. Plays based on research about
mushroom computers, Xenobots, and hormone
balancing will take the spotlight.

The Science in Theatre Festival is a women-driven, seven-day event that brings together artists, scientists, and technologists.

The plays, created specifically for the festival, are a collaboration between playwrights and scientists, each addressing a different scientific premise.

Fruiting Body by Hannah Simms based on research of Andrew Adamatzky

"When Yara begins to apply her research in fungal computing to her own childbirth, her discoveries lead her to question the very norms of being human."

The Last Word by Fareeda Pasha based on research of Michael Levin

(Xenobots and Anthrobots: First Robots Made From Living Cells)

"A musician teams up with a scientist to create an experimental treatment for his dying mother, a world famous author, so she can finish her final book."

Receptors by Aliyah Curry based on research of Rose Rimler

"In a bustling city where doctors appointments are hard to secure, a young woman turns to a social media guru to prescribe her remedies for what she believes to be hormonal imbalance."

"My favorite part about it is that I didn’t feel dumb! Science was woven into the everyday. It is about characters first and how science plays a role in their lives and the story. These were not just educational, but human, and complicated. Also the chemistry for The Last Word, I could watch for hours. “

“The Science in Theater Festival is a brilliant use of the power of theater to create emotionally resonant understanding of complex innovations that could change the world. To say that it deserves to reach many at this pivotal moment in history is a vast understatement.”
Jim Clark, founder, The World Technology Network
