Inside Out is an immersive dance performance consisting of three works in process by Madison Hicks, Sofia Klass, and Jobel Medina, all current MFA students at CalArts School of Dance. The evening invites the audience on an immersive journey giving them an inside look into a kaleidoscope of intimate stories.

About the artists:
Sofia Klass is an educator, dance theater artist, and filmmaker. Through classes and performances Sofia’s work inspires playful creativity in people of all ages and abilities. She is a founding member of Invertigo Dance Theatre (since 2008) and Efflorescence (since 2010). She is one of the creators and former director of Invertigo's Dancing Through Parkinson's program (2010-2018) and has been a Pilates/Yoga Therapist since 2007. A Los Angeles native, she has performed and choreographed all over her city including The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Ford Amphitheater, The Odyssey Theater, and Grand Park. A highlight of Sofia’s career has been teaching choreography at the Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile. Sofia holds a B.A. from UCLA’s World Arts and Cultures program and will be finishing her MFA at California Institute for the Arts this Spring of 2020.
Madison Hicks received her BFA from The Juilliard School in May 2018. She will receive her MFA in Choreography in 2021 from California Institute of the Arts. She was a full time company member with LA Dance Project under the direction of Benjamin Millepied for the 2018/2019 season. She has presented work at Palm Desert Choreography Festival, The Theorists Festival, Periapsis Music and Dance and WestFest Dance Festival and was an Avant Chamber Ballet Women’s Choreography finalist . Madison is currently a faculty member for Icon Dance Awards, California School of the Arts, Project 21 and is also a teacher and choreographer for Joffrey Southwest. Madison is a freelance dancer, choreographer, and teacher represented by Bloc Talent Agency. Madison created Moving Forward Dallas, an innovative dance intensive and Non-Profit Organization for young artists. She was a 2013 YoungArts winner for modern dance, 2014 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts Nominee and a guest artist in the 2014 YoungArts Presidential Scholar Gala under the direction of Bill T. Jones. In January of 2017, she performed as a distinguished guest alumnus in the YoungArts annual Backyard Ball under the direction of Tony Yazbeck . She has been a resident choreographer for Booker T. Washington HSPVA Rep II Ensemble, The University of Texas at Austin, Center of Creative Arts, and Houston MET Too. She has performed works by Nacho Duato, Jiri Kylian, Emily Molnar, Kyle Abraham, Ohad Naharin, Peter Chu, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Aszure Barton, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, and Pam Tanowitz.
Jobel Medina is a dancer, choreographer, and photographer based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in the Philippines, Jobel migrated in the U.S. at the age of twelve. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance at California State University, Long Beach and has been a member of Ate9 Dance Company since 2017, where he worked closely with Danielle Agami and also performed works by Shahar Binyamini and Tom Weinberger. In 2018, Jobel was one of the six interpreters to perform Tino Sehgal’s “Selling Out, (2002)” at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, CA. As a freelancer, he’s worked with choreographers such as Christopher Bordenave of No1 Art House, Kate Wallich and The YC, Ania Catherine & Dehja Ti, Rebecca Lemme, Keith Johnson, Andrew Winghart, and Whyteberg. He’s also appeared in multiple music videos including Mac Miller, Anderson Pak, Noah Crus, Raveena, Watsky, Jareena De Marco and more. Recently this year, he performed for Shaun Ross’s musical debut at the Los Angeles Pride Festival in West Hollywood. Jobel has been commissioned to choreograph for The Assembly, PGK Dance Project, and CSULA Dance Department and has presented work at multiple venues and festivals throughout the states. Additionally, he’s taught dance workshops at various universities such as CSULB, CSUF, CSULA, and in multiple high schools including Huntington Beach Academy of Arts, AB Miller Conservatory of Dance, and Laguna Beach HS. Jobel is currently attending CalArts for his MFA in Dance.
