Origins of Acid: Programming the TB303 & TR606
Do you love 303’s and analog hardware, want to learn the basics of programming drum machines through the classic Roland XOX boxes, or pick up a few tips to help you make your next dance floor banger? If so, join us for a 2 hour beginner course covering the history, programming, and production of early Acid House.
In this class we’ll explore the origins of Acid, acid production techniques, how to program a beginner DAW-less/Hardware-only acid setup using the TR606 and TB303, and finish with an exploration into clones and hardware alternatives to the original synthesizers.
No previous production experience is necessary but some basic listening-level knowledge of the genre will be helpful to understanding the concepts presented.
With humble origins rooted in free-thinking exploration and self-expression, Acid fused forgotten musical machinery with the spirit of the city to create one of the future’s most progressive genres. Requiring minimal equipment, no rules, and a raw sonic palette we hope to provide you the framework to enjoy this foundational electronic music genre through your own lens.
