Immersive. Literary. Cabaret.
Welcome to a unique and interactive poetry event that takes poetry outside classrooms and lecture halls and places it in the lush interiors of a bordello. The Madame presents a rotating cast of poets, each operating within a carefully crafted character, who impart their work in public readings, spontaneous eruptions of poetry, and most distinctly, as purveyors of private poetry readings on beds, chaise lounges and in private rooms. For a small fee, all of the poets are available for these sequestered readings at any time during the event. Of course, any true bordello needs a good cover; ours is an literary cabaret featuring burlesque, live music, vaudeville, aerials, visual art, magic, mysticism, with newly integrated themes, performances and installations at each event.
We heard your call for All Weird Poets, sweet Portland, and couldn’t be more delighted to deliver. This special event will feature more poetry than we've EVER heard in a single show with an all-star lineup of headliners that includes Janaka Stucky and Matthew Yeager, along with Indolent Books authors, Nicole Hefner Callihan, Robert Carr, John Deming, Karen Hildebrand, and Antoinette Brim. Our featured entertainers for the evening include Johnny Nuriel & Isaiah Esquire (Sirlesque), A Little Bit Off (Circus Arts), Jesse Belle-Jones (Burlesque), Hops & Honey Goodtime Band (House Band), Typewriter Tarot (Tarot Readings), and of course, your poetry whores Pavlina Vera, Pieter Devries, Marlowe Starling, Miss Candied Rhythm, Fraulein Kuchen, Persephone James, Monah Mayhem, Jyanovar, Sparky Cajones, Izzie Hexxam, Novia de Nadie, Megan Rockett, and more! For the first time ever, the festivities will be presided over by TWO Madames and TWO Masters of Ceremonies as the East Coast cast of the brothel meets West!
