Sex Games: Exploring Sexuality and Queerness Through the Medium of Games

Free

A guided tour into the ways the medium of games is uniquely positioned to spread ideas of sex positivity and queer inclusivity. ONLINE/PWYW

NYC Resistor Presents, the next in our monthly Live Circuit talk series:

Mainstream media bombard us with very specific ideas about gender, sexual freedom, erotic desire, and queerness. But what about games? While we don't tend to think of games as sites to explore sexuality, the medium of games is uniquely positioned to spread ideas of sex positivity and queer inclusivity. Experimental game designers have been doing just that: pushing at the boundaries of what we consider to be sexy, sexual, and queer—all through the medium of play.

Sharang Biswas is an award-winning game designer, writer, and artist based in NYC. He just completed a game design residency at the Museum of the Moving Image and is teaching games & media at Dartmouth this summer. He has exhibited works at numerous festivals and galleries including the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, PioneerWorks in Brooklyn, and the International Festival of Independent Games (IndieCade). He is the coeditor of STRANGE LUSTS / STRANGE LOVES: AN ANTHOLOGY OF EROTIC INTERACTIVE FICTION and HONEY & HOT WAX: AN ANTHOLOGY OG EROTIC ART GAMES
