UNRULY Collective presents Lia Embil, as our featured artist for Bushwick Open Studios 2019! This opening event will debut Lia's collection and feature a musical performance by Furmi Gomez. Turkish food & wine will be served to celebrate Lia's native culture.

Anchored by a multimedia practice spanning painting and sculpture, Lia Embil investigates the ways in which societies shift and mass change occurs. With a focus on material process and temporality, Embil’s body of work highlights the beauty and power of human nature that is often neglected, leading to a skewed sense of reality. Taken as a whole, Embil’s works abstract time, commenting on how perceptions of chronologies are altered by major events and the nuance of lived experience. Using the visual vernacular of the slower-paced, natural world, Embil questions the fabricated order and expectations placed on modern society.
