Join author Katherine MacLean, Ph.D., and Bay Area scientist and compassion educator Erika Rosenberg, Ph.D., for an evening of reading, meditation, and music focused on forgiveness and acceptance inspired by Katherine’s book, Midnight Water: A Psychedelic Memoir.

Midnight Water is a story of grief and redemption by a groundbreaking scientist who led the way in psychedelic research. Katherine’s journey traverses the spaces between birth and death, childhood and parenthood, suffering and joy, blame and forgiveness, resistance and acceptance.

Copies of Midnight Water and art from the book will be available for purchase by cash or Venmo at the event.

Katherine MacLean, PhD is a writer, research scientist, mother, and adventure-seeker. She has spent the past two decades studying the effects of mindfulness meditation and psychedelics, surviving motherhood, and learning a lot about death and grief. At the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Katherine conducted legal clinical trials of psilocybin, the primary chemical found in "magic mushrooms”. She was a lead researcher and session guide on the first study to test the combined effects of high-dose psilocybin, daily meditation training, and integration support.

Erika Rosenberg, PhD is a Bay Area scientist, author, teacher, and psychonaut who seeks to help people understand themselves and one another better, connect with one another, find peace and joy in life, and suffer less. Erika is a co- creator of the Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) program at Stanford University, Founding Faculty at The Compassion Institute, and faculty at The Nyingma Institute, Berkeley. Erika has taught at places as diverse as Google, Inc., Lerab Ling Monastery, LucasFilm, Upaya Zen Center, and Burning Man. She has published numerous books, scientific articles and chapters on facial expression, emotion, meditation, and volunteers in psychedelic harm reduction through the Zendo Project and Psychedelic Survivors Group.
