The Dorchester Art Project has announced that it will be hosting Georden West’s exhibition Queer Body In Ecstasy. The opening reception will be on Sat. March 14th from 7pm-10pm and is free for all ages.
The show is inspired by artist Georden West’s evolving perspective of the queer body, magic, and ectasy, through their childhood raised in a Franciscan community to their current status as installation artist, nonbinary person and filmmaker. “Patron Saint”, their most recent work, was recently awarded gold at the Student Academy Awards. “My work strives to manifest authentic and instinctual representations of ecstasy without performing social acceptability in an attempt to understand the queer body in sexual space,” says West. “To me, religiosity sans ecstasy centers around mortification whereas a true mystic union generates an acceptance of ecstatic and erotic sensation.”
Though the event is free, donations are welcome in order to support both Dorchester Art Project and West. On display from March 14 to April 11, those unable to make the opening will be able to see the exhibition every Saturday and Sunday during open gallery hours from 12-6pm.
