Philip Meyer (he/him) will lead a workshop on the fundamentals of Max, the visual programming environment for making art, music, and interactive software by Cycling ‘74. The four-hour workshop will be held in-person at the Coaxial Arts Foundation in Downtown Los Angeles. The workshop is designed to introduce people with a background in the visual arts, music, and DIY making to the basics of programming and computational art. Workshop participants are not expected to have any experience in coding, software development, or engineering. The course is open to all people and the content is tailored to adults and young adults. Max is an infinitely flexible space to work with sound, visuals, and data to construct your own interactive software. By patching objects in the Max Patcher, you can build and control simple classic synths, create complex interactive audiovisual tools using Jitter, build and prototype Digital Audio Workstations, control external hardware, and more. Many commercial products, art installations, and stage shows have relied on Max to glue together all the parts of their process.

Max is accessible, fun, and a great way to begin learning computer programming.

This is a hands-on workshop; participants are strongly encouraged to bring a computer running
MacOS or Windows with Max installed.

Please RSVP to guarantee a seat as space is limited.
If access to a laptop is a challenge for you, please make a note when you RSVP and we will do our best to find one for you.

This workshop is free with support from Cycling ‘74.
