While the brilliant THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT introduced found footage horror to the masses and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY ensured its continued relevance, the 2007 Spanish horror film \[REC\] still holds the belt as the genre’s terrifying champion.
A lean, mean 78 minutes, Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza’s breathless thriller follows a reporter and cameraman on the beat of what appears to be another sleepy story, following firefighters and hoping for some action. They get more than they bargain for when a seemingly routine distress call erupts into an act of cannibalism and quickly finds them quarantined by health officials in the interior of an old apartment building. As the tension mounts and zombies push them higher and higher into the building, the pair are determined to capture the entire fucked up shit on camera.
