Free! Bob & Teresa's 16mm Movie Night

Baltimore, Maryland
Free

Last 16mm Movie Night of the year!

A curated screening of real 16mm film shorts! Two sets of approximately 45 min. each with a bar break intermission.

Films start at dark (around 8pm), but the Current Space Garden Bar is open starting at 5, with happy hour from 5-7pm.

Films include:

Arrow to the Sun - A boldly geometric animated version of the Acoma Pueblo Native American legend about a boy's search for his father, the God of the Sun. This inspired the award-winning children's book by the same name, using the same artwork. By Gerald McDermott, 1973.

Boop-Beep - Theatrical visual “blackouts” combined with hand-drawn characters in a cute and curious short story by Howard and Iris Beckerman, 1984.

Cycles - A spooky, mesmerizing combination of ever-changing abstract film, video, and synthesizer sounds by experimental animation pioneers Jordan Belson and Stephen Beck, 1974.

La Jetée - Visually stunning, a haunting tale with a unique visual format - you’ll have to see this amazing film for yourself. This was the inspiration for the film 12 Monkeys, and is considered by some one of the greatest short films ever made. Chris Marker, 1962.

Meow, Meow - Colorful and silly city scenes in a madcap story with a cast of characters including a stray cat and some bad guys. Made from a paper movie theater by Red Grooms, animated by Yvonne Andersen, 1968.

The Tell-tale Heart - A darkly “mod” 1950s animated adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's horror tale. Considered a classic in the development of the animated film because of its unusual subject matter, its use of impressionistic visual techniques, and the effectiveness of its soundtrack. Killer narration by James Mason.1953.

Un Chien Andalou (An Andalusian Dog) - One of the most famous of avant-garde films, made–ironically–to satirize the pretensions and formalities of the avant-garde films of the 1920s. An attempt at pure surrealism, it consists of a series of bizarre and grotesque scenes, ranging from shocking to artsy in black and white. By Salvador Dali and Luis Bunuel, 1928.

+ More surprises! Also, films will not be shown in this order. Do come.
