Aaron Irwin Trio / Blood of a Poet & TSS Bradley / Nik Francis & Nate Scheible

$17.18 - $27.74 (includes all fees)

Saturday August 9 * 7pm * $15-25

The Aaron Irwin Trio is an exploratory and dynamic ensemble featuring Aaron Irwin (saxophones, clarinets), Mike Baggetta (guitar), and Bill Campbell (drums). The group thrives on pushing the boundaries of structure, form, and improvisation, creating music that is both deeply interactive and texturally rich. With a focus on group interplay, the trio crafts non-conventional song forms that evolve organically in performance, blurring the lines between composition and spontaneous creation.

Each member brings a distinctive voice shaped by years of collaboration and work with some of the most forward-thinking artists in jazz and beyond. Baggetta (mssv, Jim Keltner, David Torn) is known for his atmospheric yet raw approach to the guitar, while Campbell (Breastfist, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Madison Cunningham, Andrew Bird) provides a fluid and expressive rhythmic foundation. Irwin (Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, Jamie Baum’s Septet +, Gabe Kahane) ties it together with a melodic sensibility that embraces both clarity and abstraction.

The trio first made its mark with Wobegon (Fresh Sound New Talent, 2018), an album that established their distinctive aesthetic. Their latest release, (After) (Adhyâropa Records, 2024), further refines their approach, earning critical praise for its expansive compositions and immersive sound. With years of collaboration behind them, the Aaron Irwin Trio continues to tevolve, creating music that is unpredictable, expressive, and deeply connected.

"Sarah Basílio’s Blood of a Poet exists in a rare, prehistorical, nearly alchemical realm of quiet power. One may draw comparisons between Blood of a Poet and the early 70s works of Nico and Brigitte Fontaine. To be sure, there is a shared interest in the use of harmonium and voice to find a new modality, a poetry of the soul, informed by the distant past and that yet to come. However flattering, such comparisons are insufficient. Blood of a Poet is aptly named. The lifeblood, the true potency of the project is the nearly suicidal nature of it. Through the foreboding, swaying tones one finds the artist flayed, broken, and revealed. Basílio provides us a true examination and decimation of self not through intellect but in the world infinite of dreams and spirit. Terra Incognita!" -Jack Brockman

TSS Bradley is a multi-instrumentalist based in Portland, OR drawing upon traditions of improvisational saxophone music reminiscent of the genre’s more spiritual and experimental edges. Following the impact of his initial cassette on Grouse Editions, his debut LP seeks a mediation of the hermetic limits of improvisation. Can you improvise with yourself? Is anything truly “on the spot?” Clone Trio was composed, recorded, mixed, mastered, and performed by T.S.S. Bradley, recording each separate instrument one at a time and improvising over the tracks with no previous playback or listen through in one take.

Nik Francis is an improvising musician with a primary focus on the drum kit, occasionally integrating electronics and small acoustic instruments to expand his sonic palette. He has collaborated with artists such as Jamal Moore, Jim Ryan, Tyler Higgins, Luke Stewart, and Thollem, exploring a broad range of improvised and experimental music. Through topology.systems, Francis maintains a library of his solo work and collaborative projects, documenting his evolving approach to rhythm and sound.

Nate Scheible has performed and recorded in a variety of bands and ensembles spanning multiple genres over the past 25 years. Collaborators in recent years include Sarah Hughes, Nik Francis, Erik Ruin, the Bureau of Sensory Affairs with Alma Laprida, and the band Drawn with Layne Garrett and Nenet. His background is largely based in improvisation on drums, electronics, and analog tape. His work is featured prominently on releases by the labels Warm Winters Ltd., Outside Time, Unifactor, Feeding Tube, and Never Anything.
