Milk Press Virtual Workshop: Poetry + Dreams

Part of the weekly Milk Press Virtual Workshop series, produced by the Poetry Society of New York.

With Milk Press Editor-in-Chief Jackie Braje

Dreams, like poems, are not just individual constructs. Made up of symbols, feelings, experiences and ideas that often belong to the collective, the “I” becomes a valve through which the force of the dream (or the poem) occurs. Dreams are pure intuition. Dreams resist filtering; they give our innermost desires and emotions color, sound, and stories. Dreams are the perfect teachers of poetry.

In this workshop, we’ll explore various ways of tapping into our unconscious and integrating our dreams into our writing process. What is the protocol for dream writing? And how can we merge our unconscious lives with our conscious ones to better know ourselves, our practice and our peers? We’ll look to Susan Howe, Jackie Wang, and a number of writing exercises to help us answer these questions. More importantly, we’ll dream new questions together.

**This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
