Please join us at Fridman Gallery on November 11, at 8PM, for the record release concert of Ian Power's "Brace." Following an opener by electronic musician Victoria Cheah, as well as a 15min absurdist performance film by Powers about mummies with fellow composer Clint McCallum, "It Allowed Them To Produce A Single Sound," the Bergamot Quartet will perform string quartet "Brace Each Other Dive."
According to Power: "The piece’s building blocks are simple timbre, time, and pitch instructions, but it houses an environment that is rich and always shifting; a friend said the recording “sounds like Beethoven’s Third!” We laughed a lot while learning it; we had to reckon with each others’ individual senses of time; and we made personal choices, like when to embrace consonance or dissonance, how to embrace discomfort, and choreography, and, obviously, how to learn a piece where the score is entirely text and each player chooses their own part."
