The practice of meditation has numerous benefits, but for many people getting your mind to stay quite can seem like an insurmountable task.
The goal of heavy meditation is to provide a full body meditative experience by incorporating large amounts of volume and focusing on the lower frequency to feel sound on another level. This allows our mind to tune out excess activity, bringing our awareness to our bodies and present. Think of it like fully engaged, active meditation and mindfulness all in one.
Many of us have experienced something like this in our lives, for example when standing next to big monitors at a show or listening to loud drones. Heavy meditating is a working therapeutic model that is meant to adapt to the needs of the individual.
Music therapy has been found to have profound effects on a variety of issues, but it has been shown that personal preferences play a large role in creating that change. For this reason heavy meditation seeks to reach individuals that may get missed by popularized meditation and sound based relaxation strategies. It is rooted in existentialist thinking where only we are the experts of our lives and therapeutic interventions need to meet individuals where they are with their particular set of interests.
This is a free event! All are welcome and adapting the exercise to your way of being is encouraged. Feel free to bring yoga mats, art supplies, sketch pads, sleep masks, etc.
