Join The Poetry Society of New York for a limited-capacity, six-week poetry workshop.
Images can often act as the heart of a poem, pumping a piece with eternal life and energy. Poetic images are a means of sharing our unique perspective with our readers, allowing them to feel the world as it exists through our own senses. Sometimes the most inspiring images are wrought from the most unexpected mindspaces. In this workshop, we will aim to generate poetry that is image-rich and sensory-focused. Phrases and lines will be pulled from the auras of our dreams-- images that are sitting just beyond our current reach, waiting to be made real through wordcraft.
From Imagism to experimental A.I, we will read & closely unpack poems across time that have used precise imagery to bring their readers right into the marrow of a poem. Through a variety of somewhat unconventional writing prompts and activities, poets in this workshop will exit having generated several highly imaginative pieces. Some of these activities will include looking at the symbolism of our dreams, psychometry (or peering into the soul of an object), using chatGBT as a prompt generator, and more. Each poet in this workshop will receive feedback on their poems through collaborative workshopping specifically intended to help access, build, and heighten the image.
We'll meet over Zoom on the following dates from 6:30pm-9pm:
