PSNY Virtual Workshop: Limitless Figures

Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.

Limitless Figures: Extended Metaphors and Epic Similes

With poet Laura Marris!

In this workshop we will explore the wildness of figurative language and how it can create new poetic connections through humor, subversion, and other imaginative leaps. Each participant will leave the workshop with the start of a poem (or lyric essay) that channels the power of poetic comparison. No previous experience is necessary!

About the Instructor: Laura Marris is an essayist, poet, and translator. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Believer, The Paris Review Daily, The Yale Review, The Point, and elsewhere. Her work has been supported by fellowships from MacDowell and a grant from the Robert B. Silvers Foundation. She is the author of The Age of Loneliness, a collection of essays forthcoming from Graywolf Press in August 2024.* *This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
