PSNY Virtual Workshop: Wordplay

Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.

With poet Emi Bergquist!

As a poet herself, Emi often unlocks new poems by finding new ways to jest at her subject matter, jest with herself, play along side the speaker, and unlock new, unintended meaning in her poems by way of wordplay. Breaking words apart, almost finishing them but not quite, hyphenating parts of two similar or dissimilar words are all ways in which she calls on wordplay to enliven what the poem may go on to say. She is thrilled to teach a workshop about Wordplay in poetry, and invite others to explore what wordplay can unlock for them in their own work!

About the Instructor: Emi Bergquist (she/her) is a New York based poet, performer, and content creator. She’s been an active member of The Poetry Society of New York since 2015, and has work published in over ten literary journals including What Rough Beast, Oxford Public Philosophy, Oroboro, Passengers Journal, For Women Who Roar, Noctua Review, In Parentheses, and others. When not absorbed with poetry, you can find her at the park with rescue dog, Zola.
