Our May Fire Over Heaven show was curated by Lesly Mok. Read what they have to say about the show below!

"I'm so excited to present the last show of Fire Over Heaven this season. Kenneth Jimenez and Samantha Kochis are both artists I've admired for a while now for their curiosity and ability to express their many musical interests through various projects. Originally from Costa Rica, Kenneth Jimenez is a bassist who's performed with heavies such as Dave Liebman, Francisco Mela, Michael Attias, Tony Malaby, Gerald Cleaver, Joe Morris, and Tom Rainey. Equally versed as a photographer, Kenneth seemingly is able to synthesize his eye for photography with graphic notation and sound, creating music that is deeply visual and evocative. For this iteration, his trio verolis which features two other favorite improvisers of mine, Ingrid Laubrock and Chris Hoffman, will explore structured improvisations through a world of textures and sheets of sound. A deeply sensitive yet powerful artist, Samantha Kochis is a flutist who explores various creative environments. I've long admired Samantha for her ability to connect to song, while drawing from the tradition of avant-garde jazz and free improvisation to engage in deep sonic conversations. For this evening, Samantha will be bringing her percussion-forward trio Quilted with tabla-player Krissy Bergmark and tap artist Melissa Almaguer. Lastly, I'm so excited to be sharing the night with these two trios with a solo performance. I've been working on new material for awhile in preparation for the release of my upcoming solo EP on July 17th, so this will be my first exploration of that material. I hope you're able to join us!"
