Vocalist Nina Dante is a soloist, chamber musician, and improviser based in NYC and Chicago.
She is interested in musical experimentation and the continual discovery of the voice’s technical ability and emotive power.
Dante is co-founder and soprano of the ensemble Fonema Consort. She has worked with compositional luminaries such as Julio Estrada and James Dillon; and constantly collaborates with composers to expand modern vocal repertoire and technique.
Dante has performed and lectured at musical institutions including Harvard University, Oberlin Conservatory, the University of Chicago, UC Berkeley and Northwestern University. National performance highlights include appearance at National Sawdust (NYC), Pritzker Pavillion (Chicago), BAM (NYC), the Resonant Bodies Festival, the 113 Composer’s Collective concert series (Minneapolis), the Center for New Music (San Francisco), and the Chicago Cultural Center (Chicago). International performances have taken her to the Conservatoire de Strasbourg, Ecuador’s Teatro Sucre, and Mexico’s Visiones Sonoras.
With her improvisational practice, Dante explores the hidden aspects of her own voice and musical impulses. http://www.ninadante.com
