Conversations with The Beat
Every other Thursday at 6pm – talk to writers, meet the staff, talk about the issues. Baltimore Beat is a Black-led, Black-controlled nonprofit newspaper and media outlet. Their mission is to honor the tradition of the Black press and the spirit of alt-weekly journalism with reporting that focuses on community, questions power structures, and prioritizes thoughtful engagement with our readers.

Then, stick around for Garden Hours with JaySwann at 8pm. Named Best Dance Party by Baltimore Beat, Garden Hours is a bi-weekly series with JaySwann spinning some of the best deep cut house, tech, and amapiano you've ever heard. Each time, he brings new special guests.
Thursday, 10/16: Teri Henderson and Baynard Woods
Since 2023, Baynard Woods, former Editor at City Paper, has contributed to the Baltimore Beat with coverage focusing on police accountability and the rights of those harmed by oppressive systems in Baltimore and beyond. His continual coverage of Donnell Rochester and, more recently, Dontae Melton Jr. has both provided facts and imbued those extrajudicially killed by police with reverence.
Woods is an award-winning author and journalist. In addition to his journalism, he is also an incredible art writer and cultural critic.
Join him and Arts & Culture Editor Teri Henderson as they discuss the weight and rigor of reporting on those who have lost their lives, as well as the task of balancing art coverage and police coverage. They will also discuss how grief, a constant factor in both of their lives, affects their work.
