We’re turning one! Celebrate with us by coming to our community town hall on Tuesday, September 29 at 7-8:30PM.
We are Friends of Chinatown Toronto (FOCT) — a grassroots group working to build community power and resist displacement in Chinatown. Our advocacy aims to centre the needs and voices of working class, senior, and immigrant communities who rely on Toronto’s downtown Chinatown for cultural and economic resources that are unique to the neighbourhood.
Our town hall will be a chance to learn more about FOCT—as well as co-creating a vision for the Chinatown we want and need.
Our team will provide updates on FOCT’s organizing efforts this past year, such as:
Pushing for housing affordability at the proposed 315-325 Spadina development
Building community connections through our anti-displacement garden and mahjong tournament
Keeping CCTV cameras out of Chinatown and surrounding neighbourhoods
Exploring long term solutions for community controlled land through a Community land trust model
We’ll also share how to get more involved with FOCT, for those who are interested in organizing with us. Please be sure to RSVP in order to receive the Zoom link - we hope to see you there!
