Join Cris Izaguirre (Farmer/Educator) and Maya Marie (Farmer, Cook/Chef, and Educator) in the kitchen to delve into the history and preparation of plants and animals that are significant staples across the African and Indigenous diaspora.
TOGETHER WE'LL:
- Discuss the agricultural and culinary histories of African and Indigenous diaspora foods, with a focus on rice, and how they intersect in the dishes we love.
- Decolonize our understanding of food and land.
- Prepare dishes to develop a deeper understanding of our relationship to these foods.
- Uplift our stories and connections to each other!
- Celebrate the culinary legacies of the African diaspora and Indigenous peoples that shape cuisines of the Americas and Caribbean.
*SESSIONS WILL RUN Thursdays 6-8pm from July 8th - August 5th 2021.*
This is a virtual workshop conducted over Zoom.
Cooking kits are available to be mailed with advance registration. Register by June 26th to receive a cooking kit.
