Exploring the Comics Storytelling Toolbox (online/pay-what-you-wish)

Free

A guided tour into the magic of sequential art, exploring the powerful storytelling tools that make graphic novels come alive on the page.

NYC Resistor Presents, the next in our monthly Live Circuit talk series:

Authors Benjamin Wilgus and Carey Pietsch take a deep dive into the magic of sequential art and explore what makes graphic novels come alive on the page. Drawing on examples from some of their favorite contemporary cartoonists, they'll describe how the basic building blocks of color, panel layouts, and page composition can be powerful storytelling tools.

Carey Pietsch is the co-adapter and cartoonist on the NYT #1 bestselling Adventure Zone series of graphic novels, as well as the artist on Lumberjanes issues 29-32 and the Adventure Time: Marceline Gone Adrift miniseries.

Benjamin Wilgus is a comics writer and editor, currently at work on Grace Needs Space! with artist Rii Abrego. His previous books include The Mars Challenge, illustrated by Wyeth Yates; and Chronin, a solo graphic novel duology.

This event will be online via Zoom, and tickets will be Pay-What-You-Wish.

The suggested price for this talk is $15. Refunds up to 24 hours before the event. Event page with Zoom link will become available 1 hour before the event begins.
