'The Hustle Habit' is a monthly conversation series with art world movers + makers, hosted virtually with PARADICE PALASE co-founders Kat & Lauren. Each session we invite a guest to share their experiences, stories, and more about how they got started on various projects, businesses, or side hustles.

For our January session, we'll be connecting with artist, curator, and founder Jen Hitchings. Born 1988 in New Jersey, Jen is a Brooklyn-based artist and curator. She received her BFA in Painting & Drawing from SUNY Purchase College in 2011 and Certificate in Small Business & Entrepreneurship from CUNY Hunter in 2018. She has attended residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Studio Kura (Itoshima, Japan), and Highly Authorized (Ellenville, NY). Solo presentations of her work have taken place at MEN Gallery (New York, NY), PROTO (Hoboken, NJ) in 2018, and One River School (Englewood, NJ) in 2019. Recent group exhibitions have taken place at Cindy Rucker, Pierogi, Ideal Glass (New York, NY), Geoffrey Young Gallery (Great Barrington, MA), and Newark International Liberty Airport (Newark, NJ). She was a recipient of the Queens Council on the Arts’ New Works Grant in 2018. For nearly a decade, she has held management positions at contemporary and secondary market galleries, managed artist studios and estates, and co-directed artist-run galleries in New York. Her work is represented by PROTO GOMEZ, and she is the founder of Studio Associate, an art advising and consulting firm.

We are very excited to connect virtually with Jen and pick her brain about her professional journey in the art world, the founding of Studio Associate, and the hustle it takes to balance running her own business while maintaining an art studio practice.
