Description
This workshop provides a hands-on introduction to mixing guitar-based rock music in Ableton Live. Led by composer, multi-instrumentalist, and audio engineer Kate Siefker, we will explore how the different elements of a mix work together while addressing common limitations, such as imperfect recording conditions or minimal equipment.
Kate will focus on fundamental concepts for mixing in a band setting including balancing frequencies, managing dynamics, and creating cohesion and space in the mix. They will also address solutions for challenges like pre-bounced tracks or stems with effects already applied.
Participants will learn how to EQ guitar sounds, apply compression to drums and bass, automate volume, and use panning, parallel processing, and stereo field imaging to create a balanced mix. The workshop will also cover Michael Brauer’s alternative mixing style, “Brauerization,” and how to adapt it to Ableton Live.
The session will include a demonstration in Ableton Live, followed by extra time for participants to experiment with the techniques discussed.
Ideal for those with a basic understanding of Ableton Live.
Please note: ticket registration closes at 9am on Nov 12th.
