Our bodies are made with the finest, silkiest messy gestations, interrupting linear paths making cycles, making cycles, making cycles. Moving through,
Tearing through,
Mythical cured places. ~ moira williams
Speaking Bodies
A durational, bio-ritualistic unwrapping, wrapping and throwing performance by disabled artist moira williams with a body of shoes formerly worn by or recognized as compromising by self-identifying disabled, crip, d/Deaf, Mad, Sick, Low sighted, Blind and/or chronically ill people. Each shoe holds a Crip utterance that will be released throughout and following the performance through gesture, ritual and sound. Following the gallery performance, the shoes will be available for viewing on the Nobody’s Fashion website as the plastic in each shoe is eaten by mycelium living in the cloth used for wrapping the shoes. The gathered shoes along with the mycelium are a commingled speaking body inducing worship, rage, pain, delight as they demand the dismantling of white supremacist and colonial systems making way for more generative and transformative equality.
