About the Bands:
Ghost Band Plays Ghost Venues, a project of musician Stefan Zeniuk and HONK NYC!, honors creative spaces that once were. The ensemble’s 3rd annual expedition explores the area around East Houston Street. Parade through multiple generations – and genres – of music history, haunting once revered but now shuttered music halls, sites currently home to boutiques, banks, and hotels. The hallowed incubators of NYC’s musical heritage, cornerstones of punk, hard-core, jazz, folk, house, experimental, indie rock, salsa, performance art, drag culture, and more, may be gone but are not forgotten. Touch the past and sing a song for the town that continues to inspire. Venues to be rehabilitated for one night only include: Lismar Lounge, Princess Pamela’s Southern Touch, Cuando, The Spiral, Save The Robots, Gas Station, Slug’s Saloon, The Stone, Meow Mix, ABC No Rio, Tonic, Cake Shop, Luna Lounge, Pink Pony, Surf Reality, and The Living Room.
HONK FAMILY BAND
Born on the Open Streets of NYC in 2022, HONK Family Band brings the sounds of The Big Easy and beyond to inclusive events across NYC. The ever-evolving group blends New Orleans brass with Brazilian samba, performing everything from Rebirth Brass Band and Duke Ellington to the Talking Heads, Nirvana, Pharoah Sanders, Fela Kuti, and our very own Frank London. They've led parades for Jersey City Jazz Fest, and Bryant Park, have performed at The Mermaid Parade and Sinterklaas, and are the go-to band for your local kids' Halloween parade. The ensemble is a commissioned project of House of HONK! further growing the organization's mission of "...bringing street band music and spectacle culture to audiences everywhere.”
MOMENT Collective is a manifestation of the living collaborative museum of music in New York City, MOMENT NYC. In collaboration with artist groups, venues, institutions, and DIY spaces, MOMENT NYC brings together people of all ages and backgrounds through music. We create gigs for working musicians, student opportunities, and free spaces for people who love to sing, dance, and make music. MOMENT Collective is a super-band formed for this year’s winter solstice celebration, made up of some of the many fantastic musicians who have worked with us, new friends, and extended family. Featuring founding members of the Grammy-nominated NYC band Groove Collective – Chris Theberge, Genji Siraisi, and Jonathan Maron, with special guests Will Bernard, Marcio Garcia, Tony Jarvis, Eliot Krimsky, and special guest sit-ins, it will be a night of improvisation and spontaneous expression, excavating the continuum of independent music making in downtown Manhattan.
