MoRUS' 7th Annual Film Festival: Offensive Fences

The Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space is excited to host it’s 7th annual film festival, titled: Offensive Fences. The three-day outdoor film festival / art exhibit / dance party will take place September 26th -28th at community garden locations around the East Village. This year the MoRUS film festival is exploring the idea of walls and borders and their effect on every aspect of our lives, in particular, community and the environment.

On Thursday, September, 26th join MoRUS at La Plaza Cultural Garden on 9th street and Avenue C at 7 pm for a screening of “The River and the Wall.” In addition, there will be three visual art installations on display, Ryan Legassicke’s immersive sculptures will be set up in in the garden in the screening area. Andrew Sturm will introduce the group exhibition “elcatsbO Obstacle” with Jill Marie Holslin. The exhibit is available for viewing at MoRUS through October 26th 2019.

On Friday, September 27th MoRUS will present a selection of shorts starting at 7:30pm at the community garden on 6th Street and Avenue B followed by a dance party at the Museum. On Friday, at 7:30 PM the film “La Frontierra Chingada,” will be introduced for its’ NYC premiere by the director, Emily Packer. The screening location is El Jardin del Pariso. We will have a look at another related short film and wrap up the night with a Q+A with the director and community conversation about the festival.

Let us come together as a community to examine the role that walls and borders play in our lives and the global, national, and local impact they have on us. The intent behind this film festival is to not only disseminate information about border walls, but to spark interesting community conversation and get us thinking about how we can move forward.
