In the fall of 2023, Anne Waldman hosted a two-day event called The Genius of Others and invited a wide range of artists, poets, and musicians to present their work.

Now, Anne returns to 222 for a membership drive event—and hosts a listening party for "Your Devotee in Rags," a record she just made with the musician Andrew Whiteman, the guitarist of the Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene.

"Your Devotee in Rags" is a sonic poetry collaboration between Anne and Andrew. Taking inspiration from musicians like Lido Pimienta and Tanya Tagaaq, the record is, in their words, “a missive to this age of patriarchal power,” and “its songs and poems are designed to specifically confront that power and hold it to account.”First, we all sit down and listen the record together. Then Anne and Andrew have a conversation about it.

This is the second of a series of membership events where we invite artists to come back. Because membership is all about coming back again and again. It’s about belonging to or becoming part of something, over time.
