Stan Zenkov is a New York based multi-instrumentalist and improviser who works across genres. He plays clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor and alto saxophones, cornet, and also folk wind instruments with a focus on improvisation and experimention as a means of inquiry into the mysteries and transformative properties of the human perception of sound, and exploration of music as universal human ritual. In New York he plays and collaborates with Chris Cochrane, Marc Edwards, Daniel Carter, Patrick Holmes, Gían Pérez, Ayumi Ishito, and more.
Joining Stan will be D.C. improvisers Abe Mamet (French horn) and Jamie Sandel (violin and bass). The pair first played together in 2018 in a performance at Rhizome DC, and has played many venues off- and on-line. With all their music, the duo tries to use practiced improvisation to seek beauty and peace within the spaces they play and communities they play with. As well, both Jamie and Abe use the platform to dive deeper into the worlds of their instruments, seeking new sounds, modes, and relationships with music-making devices.
The Art Jam Collaborative performs cohesive improvised sounding and painting. Founded 2 years ago by visual artist April Enelly Galvan and sound artist Joseph Sioui, the Denton, Texas-based act has notably performed at the Joan of Bark Concert Series.
For the last decade, flutist, vocalist and composer Alex Hamburger has been creating her own musical direction. Alex's highly anticipated sophomore album, What If? delves into perception, transition, and the boundaries of human experience, fusing electric and acoustic sounds for an immersive narrative that continues to stir up testimonials from publications like All About Jazz, Jazzthing and Vents Magazine. Alex was also a member of the esteemed Focusyear band at JazzCampus in Basel Switzerland and Alex continues to captivate audiences worldwide in Europe, South America and the US. Alex remains deeply connected to the DC music community as a 2022 Strathmore Artist in Residence class, founder/producer of My Body, My Festival; a fundraiser for the DC Abortion Fund and as Managing Director of CapitalBop, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting, preserving and presenting Jazz in DC.
