“I wish to tap into the stream of thought of the collective consciousness. In this seeking I wish to develop a stream of collective conscious fever dreams, A voyage into the inner worlds of Being. Imagine a philosophical visual and audioscape through the deep centers of an internal scifi/ pseudo spiritual world.” -josie j

This year, the Dance Resource Center’s @drc_la Homegrown residency was granted to Neoma artist collective. This residency provided studio space at Fusion Dance Academy @fusionpdacademy. Studio time was spent conditioning together and exploring movement. From themes captured in their group experience a collective poetic verse was constructed. This container of collected thoughts provided a strange loop that is a microcosm of a collective dream.

Neoma is a loose collective of multidisciplinary artists formed through the search for a practicum and community-based mindfulness practice. The group originated in josie j’s monthly butoh workshops at the Philosophical Research Society. We gather under the name Neoma — the new moon — signifying a cycle of regrowth and renewal. Our work grows from these workshops into collaborative performances where dance, live sound, and visual storytelling intertwine. We create nonlinear narratives that embody survival, memory, and transformation, drawing from butoh, improvisation, and myth-making as shared practices of reimagining

mai ishikawa sutton (they/them) [https://maisutton.net/] is an organizer, writer/editor, and artist born, raised, and based in Los Angeles. Their work is primarily focused on the digital commons and other intersections between network technologies and the solidarity economy as the lead editor of COMPOST magazine and as a senior organizer with DWeb. In their movement practice, they explore the possibilities of situation through breath, presence, and improvisation.

Maiko Okajima is a dancer, choreographer, and performer who’s interested how minimalistic body movement effects and creates relationship and narrative to the powerful and energetic movements. My work is influenced by mother earth nature and Butoh (Japanese theater performance) which is a simplistic but complex relationship between the body movement and space.

Mica is a Brazilian migrant artist whose practice navigates the intersections of body, land, memory, and resistance. Guided by questions and influenced by intergenerational wisdom, their work explores how we shape the world—and how, in turn, the world shapes us. Their practice continually returns to the body as a space of connection, transformation, and possibility.
