Terra de Ninguém
Does this land belong to us? Does this land belong to them? Does this land belong to whom? These striking questions are the fuel for Terra de Ninguém” ( English: No Man’s Land) — Johab Silva’s ongoing endeavor to understand the layered history of colonialism in South America, its establishment, and its never ending tragic outcome in communities and their environment.
Growing up in Brazil and living in the U.S. for almost two decades, and propelled by his personal experience and heritage, through projection mapping, sculptures, and new media installations, Silva portraits cultural and inner strength that's found in the lives of those affected by colonial forces. "Can we find peace, strength, knowledge, and redemption, while living under great oppression? If so, where do we find it?"
