Sacred Body Movement Workshop & Sound Bath - Hidden City DIY Festival

$11.90 (includes all fees)

We will be hosting a Sacred Body Movement Workshop, run by Bri Frei, followed by a Sound Bath, performed by Chai. The night will end with a solo performance on vibraphone by percussionist Frank Lao.

This event will be held at The Coop, a DIY music & arts backyard venue in Flatbush, run by Grant Chamberlain.

Sacred Body Movement Workshop:
A sacred space where spirit meets sensuality. This movement workshop blends “twerking”, breathwork, pelvic floor strengthening, and intuitive movement to help you reconnect with your power, pleasure, and presence. Move with BriFrei through softness and strength, release stuck energy, and awaken the magic within your body

Sound Bath:
do you know how to blow into a bottle to produce a sound? How your lips can release the magic of resonance within a glass? Do you ever struggle with expressing yourself with words? want an alternative? What if we focused on one note, for each of us? in a... larger group?
These are all questions u could ask yourself ahead of time, or just come and find your answer. Come play a single note with me. Let us be something more, together.

CW: many, many empty glass bottles (many of which once held alcohol)

Frank Lao (@NewVibesNewYork) is writing new music for solo vibraphone, experimenting in the space where minimalism allows for improvisation. His pieces use repetition as a form of meditation, stretch rhythm in service of melody, and sometimes drift through melancholy chord clouds. This set moves between structure and improvisation—featuring “Drone Piece” inspired by LaMonte Young and “Dad” for vibraphone and harmonica—contrasted by two arrangements of J.S. Bach, whose clarity and counterpoint influence much of New Vibes’ sound. Expect a performance that invites deep listening but doesn’t demand it—music that can transcend your full attention or gently soundtrack your surroundings. His debut EP, “Vibraphone, Time” is out this fall.

RSVP for the address.
