Fall of Freedom: Art in Action

Free

Fall of Freedom: Art in Action is a two-day immersive event that empowers NYC-based activists and immigrants to share their stories through participatory photography, visual art, and activist performance. Through engagement with art, music, and dialogue, participants will explore themes of activism, migration, and resilience.

This evening's program will feature denim-based artworks by Alex Curtin, a photo wall featuring activist photography, interactive displays blending socio-political narratives, and a live performance by activist musician Luke Concannon beginning 7pm.

This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are welcome, but not required. You are welcome to simply show up, and cash will be accepted for any donations or refreshments. No ID necessary.

This is FRIDAY's program. SATURDAY evening will be just a few blocks westward, at Cloud City.

Alex Curtin
A NYC- PA based visual artist and ethnographer, Alex Curtin combines photo-ethnography and experimental media to amplify marginalized voices. Through his project See With Us, Alex is working to facilitate photovoice workshops with refugee families, as well as creating cyanotype prints on denim that explore themes of activism, migration and belonging. Past exhibitions include Greenpoint Gallery, Fridge Art Fair, and Ink Press Repeat. Alex’s work bridges art and activism as a form of healing.

Luke Concannon
A Vermont-based singer-songwriter, Luke Concannon blends folk music rooted in Irish tradition with themes of activism. Known for Nizlopi’s hit “JCB Song” (which influenced Ed Sheeran), Luke’s solo albums include Ecstatic Bird in the Burning (2022) and Midnight Bloom (September 2025). His collaborations, such as “Brother,” promote hope and solidarity. Luke will lead workshops and performances during Art in Action, uplifting refugee voices through music.
