TouchDesigner is an extraordinarily powerful and flexible platform for generating real-time video. Its depth makes it an invaluable tool for concert visuals, video installations, and other forms of interactive media. However, that complexity can feel daunting and time-consuming for newcomers and experienced users alike.
Led by Permian Strata, this workshop sets aside complexity in favor of the exploratory and improvisational spirit of early video art. Using LZX Industries’ modules as a conceptual blueprint, we will build a TouchDesigner network that mimics the behavior of classic analog video synthesizers. Along the way, we’ll explore ramps, oscillators, keying, compositing, feedback loops, and other foundational video-synthesis techniques. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a flexible image-generation system that you can continue to expand and customize after the session ends.
No prior TouchDesigner experience is required. Just bring a laptop with TouchDesigner installed (the free version is sufficient).
