Stand Up, Lie Down
STAND UP. LIE DOWN. is a funny show that connects the performer with the audience in a hilarious new way.
Two comics and one visual artist each take the stage to present their act; the artist presents their work on a screen. After each one is finished, they take to Dr. Lisa’s shrink couch while she tries to understand the personality behind the work in her own unlicensed, psychotherapist way.
Dr. Lisa is the host of Dr. Lisa Gives a Sh*t on Radio Free Brooklyn, a self-proclaimed psychotherapist and conceptual artist and the City Reliquary’s very own Miss Subways 2017.
Comedian Christian Finnegan—His bio could fill this entire website, here’s just some of the TV shows you might have seen him on: “Conan”, “The Late Late Show with James Corden”, “Good Morning America” and “The Today Show”. Check out his recent special, “Show Your Work” here.
Artist Tara Lewis creates paintings that dive into cultural anthropology with a pop twist. Her works have been shown nationally, internationally and are held in important collections. Her current exhibition, up until May 27 at Louis K. Meisel Gallery is a collaboration between the artist and the actress, Brooke Shields.
Comedian Shak Stanley: also known as (Shak) is an American comedian, host, DJ, and writer, best known for doing stand-up on Last Comic Standing and for being one of the recurring cast members from Season 6 to Season 7 of the improv comedy show, Wild ‘N Out, on MTV2.
Lineup is subject to change.
Dr. Lisa, the self-proclaimed psychotherapist, is a funny, insightful character developed by Lisa Levy who is also a talk show host and conceptual artist. She’s been performing as Dr. Lisa since 2001 when the New York Times reported on her show “Psychotherapy LIVE! declared her a “Shrink with stage presence.” She’s performed in countless venues both here and abroad.
Most of her visual art is conceptually based, ranging from text paintings to sitting on a toilet naked as a parody of Marina Abromavic’s The Artist is Present, with her own version, The Artist is Humbly Present. She has exhibited her work in many art galleries, art fairs and is currently represented by VSOP Projects. Her museum store multiples are available through Open Editions and Printed Matter. WHAT IS THE CITY RELIQUARY?
Reliquaries typically house the ostensible bones of dead saints. We house the bones of New York City. Sltzer bottles to schist cores, roller skates from racially integrated rinks, and a burnt out lightbulb from the Statue of Liberty's torch are just a few examples of our exciting collection.
We use this space to breathe new life into New York city, with not only our incredible collection of interactive historical exhibits, but continuous and stimulating programming, arts, and events.
WHY MEMBERSHIP?
Membership gives you FREE ACCESS to all upcoming events, museum entry with a plus one on all open days, and the unique opportunity to be a part of a thriving creative community. Membership is the way The City Reliquary will survive through and beyond this pandemic. You can become a member for $10/month at cityreliquary.org/join.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
The City Reliquary values the individual diversity of every member of our community. Differences in age, race, ethnic heritage, religion, appearance, gender, sexual orientation, or any number of characteristics provide experiences, viewpoints, and ideas that strengthen and enrich our mission.
We are committed to creating an environment that is safe, inclusive, respectful, and equitable, and to include and uplift people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to create a safe and inspiring space.
From day one, our motto has been this simple phrase: Be Civic. And we’re sticking to it.
