Community Power Mapping workshop
September 21st, 6-8pm
Online - Zoom
The goal for this workshop is to empower people who are queer and trans (especially queer and trans BIPOC) in Tkaronto to see space differently. Working together, we hope to build strategies for direct action and mobilize support for alternatives to policing. . Everyone is welcome.
Building on the success of last year’s workshop, this year we will focus on finding ways to participate in a specific movement that has been gaining momentum over the summer: defunding the police. What we would like to propose is that on September 21st, we host 4 concurrent Power Mapping workshops, one workshop for each Community Council Area ( https://bit.ly/35f0jAo ). Each workshop will be facilitated by two engaged residents of the area who are invested in improving their neighbourhoods. Each of those workshops will have the goal of facilitating a local discussion about how to develop a place-based movement that supports defunding and abolishing police. Bricks & Glitter would like to see another City Council vote in the near future, and to have that vote decide in favour of halving the police budget so that our city might have money for education, transportation, health care, housing, the environment and public safety.
