About the speaker:

Dr. Dylan Clark serves as Assistant State Archaeologist for the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology (NCOSA). Over the past two decades he has participated in research projects in Mesoamerica (Mexico and Central America), the Great Lakes region, New England, and now the Southeast. He earned a BA in Anthropology from Western Michigan University, an MA in Latin American Studies from Tulane University, and a PhD in Anthropology from Harvard University. His dissertation research explored the social organization and history of a Maya coastal port community through household archaeology at Isla Cerritos, a tiny island site in Yucatán, Mexico. In addition to Mesoamerican cultures and history, his research and publications have also focused on community-based collaborative archaeology and museum and heritage studies. Prior to joining the NCOSA team in 2020, Dylan worked with several cultural institutions, museums, and non-profits, including the InHerit: Indigenous Heritage Passed to Present program at UNC-Chapel Hill, Boundary End Archaeology Research Center, Dumbarton Oaks Research Library & Collection, and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology. He also taught anthropology, history, and art history at UNC-Asheville, Brevard College, Front Range Community College, and Harvard University.
